Senate passes unemployment-insurance bill

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — The Senate on Monday passed a bill that would renew lapsed long-term unemployment benefits. The bill was approved 59 to 38 and now goes to the House of Representatives, where leaders oppose it. The Senate measure restores federal unemployment insurance retroactively for five months. Benefits expired at the end of last year, so the renewal would apply through May.
